Defensive Handgun Courses

Draw and Holster Clinic

The Draw Clinic is a non shooting /Dry course.

The course is designed to teach you the correct fundamentals to safely draw and holster your firearm from the traditional "hip carry" position.

This class is used to prepare you for courses like the NRA CCW course, Defensive Pistol, CP101 or other "concealed carry" type shooting courses.

Or if you're an experienced shooter and you just can't get "Fast enough".

This is a BASIC Level course.

We will NOT be covering "non-traditional" carry methods like: off body carry (purse, briefcase, fanny pack, etc.),. Appendix carry, ankle carry, etc.  We have a "non-traditional draw clinic" for that.  You must do this course first, however.

Equipment you need:

  • NO LIVE AMMO
  • Modern, functioning Firearm
  • Magazines and speed loaders, loaded with 10 snap caps (that match the caliber of your firearm)
  • Trousers or shorts capable of taking a belt
  • A concealed carry style belt. We recommend the KORE Essential belts or 5.11 TRAINER belt.  We do not recommend NexGen or any floppy belt. This is a non-negotiable piece of safety equipment.   If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed.  NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear BEFORE you come to class.
  • A hard sided holster that attaches to that belt. This is non-negotiable safety gear. If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed.  NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear BEFORE you come to class.
  • No SERPA style holsters or any holster that uses your trigger finger to unlock the gun.  This is a non-negotiable piece of safety equipment.   If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed.  NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear BEFORE you come to class.
  • No Soft Nylon holsters like Uncle Mikes. This is a non-negotiable piece of safety equipment.   If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed.  NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear BEFORE you come to class.
  • Eye protection

If you have questions, ASK before the class.  You will not receive a refund if you show up to class without the proper gear.  We will help you find the best gear possible for your needs.

Non-Traditional Draw Clinic

You know how to draw from the traditional "hip carry" position.

Now learn to draw from "non-traditional" carry positions like Appendix, Bra, ankle, shoulder, purse, backpack, etc.

This is a non-shooting course but you must either have taken the first draw clinic or demonstrate to the instructor that you can draw and holster from the "Traditional Hip Carry" position correctly

You could also have taken a formal "concealed carry course" like CDC's Defensive Firearms One, CDT's Level One pistol course, NRA CCW, USCCA CCW or something equivalent.

If you have questions about whether or not you meet the criteria, please contact us.

Equipment you need:

  • NO LIVE AMMO
  • Modern, functioning Firearm
  • Magazines and speed loaders, loaded with 10 snap caps (that match the caliber of your firearm)
  • Trousers or shorts capable of taking a belt
  • Your "Non traditional" carry method.  It must be safe.  If you have questions about its safety, ask before you come to class.
  • Eye protection

If you have questions, ASK before the class.  You will not receive a refund if you show up to class with improper or dangerous gear.  We will help you find the best gear possible for your needs.

NRA CCW

The NRA CCW course is designed to teach you the knowledge, skill, and attitude required to safely carry and use your pistol as a concealed carry tool.  Both Semi-Auto's and Revolvers are permitted for this course.  You must have taken NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting, some other basic gun skills course, or have a working knowledge of grip, stance, loading loading and unloading, and properly/accurately shooting your firearm in order to take this course.

This is not a course for people who have never shot their handguns before.

There is a qualification test at the end of the course. Minimum round count is 300 rounds.

  • No off body carry: this includes purse, or fanny packs/briefcases.  If you wish to carry this way, attend one of our holster clinics.
  • No shoulder holsters, bra holster, ankle holsters or appendix holsters.  If you wish to carry this way, attend one of our holster clinics.
  • Must have at least 3 functioning magazines and a magazine pouch.
  • Must have eye and ear protection. Electronic hearing protection is preferred. (like the Howard Leight Impact Sport). This is a safety requirement and non-negotiable.  If you come to class with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed with NO REFUNDS.

Defensive Pistol 101 (DP101)

This is where you start.

Defensive Pistol 101 begins with a draw clinic. You will learn a proper and safe draw and holster method. You will learn defensive shooting theory and techniques and will develop your ability to operate your firearm under stress with stress inoculation drills. Please bring a cover garment as we will be working with "Concealed carry", as well.

Both revolvers and semi-autos can be used in the course. There is a recommended amount of ammo needed for the course. HOWEVER, due to current cost and/or availability, bring what you can afford to shoot. The important thing is the repetitions of the motions and not making the gun go "Bang".

Prerequisite: Must have a working knowledge of loading, unloading, and shooting your firearm.  This is not a class for you if you have never shot your gun or don't know how to load, stand, aim, shoot, or unload your gun.

Please bring:

  • Functioning, modern, centerfire,  firearm
  • Magazines (minimum 3), or Speedloaders (revolvers- minimum 4)
  • A way to carry a magazine or speedloader on your belt
  • 150- 200 rounds of ammo.  Bring what you can afford to shoot.  The most important thing is the training, not the "Bang"
  • Hard sided holster- no trigger finger locks (Ex. Serpa) (Safariland OK)  This is a non-negotiable safety requirement.  If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed from class with NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear before class.
  • An appropriate "concealed carry" type belt (not a cop's "Duty belt").  We prefer the KORE. You don't want a belt that stretches.
  • Eye Protection- This is a non-negotiable safety requirement.  If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed from class with NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear before class.
  • Electronic hearing protection.  We prefer the Howard Leight Impact Sport models, but there are plenty other brands out there.  only 3 loaners are available and must be reserved on a "first come, first served" basis.  This is a non-negotiable safety requirement.  If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed from class with NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear before class.
  • A Brimmed Hat- this keeps the brass from going behind your glasses.  This is a non-negotiable safety requirement.  If you show up with inappropriate gear, you will be dismissed from class with NO REFUNDS.  Ask about your gear before class.

Defensive Pistol 102 is a 4 hour class that builds on what you learned in DP101.

Because firearms are mechanical objects which can fail, we will be working with common types of malfunctions that occur to both semi-autos and revolvers (Type1, Type 2, and Type 3).

By the end of this course, you will be well on your way to being able to reflexively fix firearms malfunctions.  Both revolvers and semi-autos can be used in the course. There is a recommended amount of ammo needed for the course. HOWEVER, availability and cost concerns, bring what you can afford to shoot. The important thing is the repetitions of the motions and not making the gun go "Bang".
