Defensive Long Gun Classes

Tactical Sporting Rifle 101 (TSR101)

TSR 101 is designed to teach basic defensive firearms skill using a modern, semi-automatic rifle.

This course is designed for beginners and those who want a refresher on their fundamentals.  You will learn fundamental manipulation skills, defensive ready positions, loading and reloading techniques, controlled pairs and stop shots, and shooting from behind barriers.

Class includes dry drills and a live fire component.

The ideal platform for this class is an Modern Sporting Rifle like the AR or AK platform. However, lever and bolt action can be used in this class, as well.

Preferred caliber is a service caliber (.38/9mm or higher for PCC, .223/5.56 or higher for others).

Equipment needs include:

  • A functioning firearm,
  • minimum 3 Standard (not low capacity) magazines
  • a way to hold your magazines (battle belts, and chest rigs welcome)
  • if using a bolt or lever action, a butt cuff or ammo pouch is highly recommended,
  • wrap around eye protection
  • a brimmed hat that is compatible with your hearing protection
  • "in the ear" hearing protection (foam plugs are fine) AND electronic hearing muffs.  We prefer Howard Leight Impact Sport model This is a non-negotiable safety item. There are loaners available- first come, first served.
  • hat with a brim that is compatible with your hearing protection,
  • a sling (2 point tactical preferred).

Approximately 250 rounds are required but bring what you can "Afford" to shoot. The important thing is the TRAINING and SKILLS, not making the gun go "Bang".

NO GREEN TIP OR STEEL CORE AMMO!!!

Optics must be pre-sighted. Preferably 50 yard zero. Iron Sights must be "pre-sighted".  We will confirm zero but will spend little to no time adjusting. If you don't know how to do this, do a few rifle fundamentals session with us first.
